HILLS!


Hills are a perfect way to build leg strength prior to adding any speedwork to your program. Hills add a degree of plyometrics so are best performed in a controlled manner using bounding and high knee lifts. Hills are a great way to improve running form and economy. I use hill runs in my programs to help prepare runners for the next phase of training which is adding speed. Trying to do speedwork without developing leg strength first is potentially inviting injury as most people aren't ready for the stress of trying to coordinate fast running.


Adaptation:


✔ Leg strength and flexibility.

✔Improve running form & economy.

✔ Develop confidence.

✔ Improve leg speed.


Mistakes:


Trying to sprint rather than bounding with a high knee lift.

Not allowing time for adaptation.

Doing too much too soon.
